Handbrake wont open start or run on Windows 10 11

Handbrake won’t open start and run on Windows 10 or 11?

I updated Handbrake on Windows 10 to version 1.6.1 today and found that no matter what I did, it would not open and run. I uninstalled and reinstalled, deleted preferences and app data, absolutely nothing worked. I searched and searched online and found lots of suggestions, but ultimately nothing worked.

I knew Handbrake required Microsoft’s Dot Net Framework, and I wondered if something might have gone bad here. I downloaded the latest version and when I went to install it, my PC told me I already had the latest version installed…So now what…

I ended up digging through Handbrakes official forum and found a hint from one of the members. At the time of publishing the current version of Dot Net Runtime Environment is 6.0.14. This was not working for me. I Found a link to 6.0.13 and downloaded it, and I was able to install it. And surprise surprise, Handbrake booted right up! I have since read that some other people were not able to roll back, and I am wondering if this might be because they are on Windows 11? My old test PC doesn’t meet the requirements for 11 so it is still running Windows 10, and I had no problems installing and running version 6.0.13.

You can download Dot Net V6.0.13 HERE

Hopefully this resolves your problem as well!

Transmission is a great piece of software, but in its default settings state it does have some quirks that can be a little annoying. To learn how to stop this you can watch the below video, or continue reading.

When adding a new torrent, a dialogue box ALWAYS opens, even after you have set your default download locations for both complete and incomplete files.

Transmission BT New Torrent Dialogue Box Window

Wouldn’t it be great if you didn’t get that window, and downloads just added and started automatically without you having to click the “Add” button every time?

Here’s how to stop this annoying behaviour once and for all!

Open Preferences, and click on the “Transfers” tab. Make sure you are looking at “Adding” and not “Management”.

To stop it from opening that annoying window make sure ALL of these options are unchecked.

**NOTE** – Be sure that EVERY option is unchecked! I found in my testing that leaving one checked (as shown below), and un-checking the parent option still made the window appear, even though the check was greyed out

As always, make sure you are using the latest version of Transmission BT which can be downloaded HERE.

Easily Stop Folders Opening Automatically when Hovering Cursor Over Them on Mac

Stop Folders Opening Automatically when Hovering Cursor Over Them

I really hate how folders open automatically when you hover your mouse cursor over them on Mac. Sometimes I need to place a number of files into different folders, and having them open automatically when I just want to drop something in there is a real pain. It slows me down, and is just plain annoying. Thankfully, it is easy to stop this behavior. Open Preferences, and look for the accessibility option.

Preferences TabOnce you have the accessibility tab open, look for mouse & trackpad options in the left pane, and then click it to open.

Springy Folders

To slow down the time it takes for folders to pop open when you are hovering over them, slide the slider towards “long” delay. To stop folders from springing open automatically completely, uncheck the “spring-loading delay” option.
